Clemastine Fumarate Tablets

Antihistamine

Clemastine Fumarate is an antihistamine thatblocks action of histamine on tissues. Similar to other antihistamines, Clemastine acts by blocking the H₁ receptor and suppresses inflammatory reactions caused by histamine.  The H₁ blockers have been used to control pruritus [itching] and skin inflammation in dogs and cats [skin allergies].

Small Animal Dosage:
Dogs:
0.05-0.1mg/kg every 12 hours orally.

Dosages based on giving 1.34 mg tablet every 12 hours.
Less than 22 lbs: 0.5 tablet
22-55 lbs: 1 tablet
Over 55 lbs: 1.5 tablets

Side Effects: Sedation is the most common side effect.  Dry mouth and decreased GI secretions are also possible effects.

There are no contraindications or drug interactions reported in animals.

Active Ingredients: CLEMASTINE [Antihistamine]

Inactive Ingredients: Lactose Monohydrate, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Sodium Starch Glycolate.

Trade and other Names:  Tavist, Contac 12-hour allergy, and generic brands

Formulations:  1.34 mg tablets [OTC] and 2.64 mg tablets[prescription].
