Clemastine Fumarate Tablets
Antihistamine
Clemastine Fumarate is an antihistamine thatblocks action of histamine on tissues. Similar to other antihistamines, Clemastine acts by blocking the H1 receptor and suppresses inflammatory reactions caused by histamine. The H1 blockers have been used to control pruritus [itching] and skin inflammation in dogs and cats [skin allergies].
Small Animal Dosage:
Dogs:
0.05-0.1mg/kg every 12 hours orally.
Dosages based on giving 1.34 mg tablet every 12 hours.
Less than 22 lbs: 0.5 tablet
22-55 lbs: 1 tablet
Over 55 lbs: 1.5 tablets
Side Effects: Sedation is the most common side effect. Dry mouth and decreased GI secretions are also possible effects.
There are no contraindications or drug interactions reported in animals.
Active Ingredients: CLEMASTINE [Antihistamine]
Inactive Ingredients: Lactose Monohydrate, Magnesium Stearate, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Sodium Starch Glycolate.
Trade and other Names: Tavist, Contac 12-hour allergy, and generic brands
Formulations: 1.34 mg tablets [OTC] and 2.64 mg tablets[prescription].
