LubriSyn™ is an odorless, tasteless, colorless oral gel with hyaluronic
acid as its main component. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring part of tissues
and is a primary constituent of synovial fluid, the viscous substance that lubricates
joints and allows two adjacent cartilage caps to glide upon one another with minimal
friction.
Daily use of LubriSyn avoids the peaks and valleys associated with HA injections
by maintaining a consistent bio-available serum level. An oral product is also
less invasive to the animal, safer to administer and more easily transported.
Intra-articular injections carry risks of synovial "flare," or pain
near the injection site, and the possible degradation of healthy performance.
LubriSyn provides a consistent, stable and proven supplement that can be administered
with none of the risks or side effects prevalent with injection products.
When HA is given orally, there are no side effects. As a naturally occurring
substance, LubriSyn will not show up in post-competition testing.
Chemistry:
Sodium hyaluronate, hyaluronic acid, hyaluronan and HA are terms for the same
glycosaminoglycan that can exist in different forms depending on their chemical
environment. This glycosaminoglycan is composed of repeating subunits of D-Glucuronic
acid and N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine connected with glycosidic bonds. Because LubriSyn
(sodium hyaluronate) is extracted from a microbial source, it is free of dermatan,
chondroitin sulfate and other glycosaminoglycan contamination.
Pharmacology:
HA is highly bio-compatible and bio-degradable. It regulates normal cellular
constituents, decreasing the impact of exudation, enzyme release and subsequent
degradation of joint integrity.
Directions
Complete results appear within 1-2 weeks of consistent use.
Daily Maintenance Load:
Administer 15 ml once daily.
Initial Load Period:
LubriSyn may be administered at double (30 ml) the daily maintenance level for
an initial loading period of five days or more. Horses with joint health issues
may benefit from an extended initial loading period of up to 14 days.
Pre-Performance Load:
LubriSyn may be administered at double (30 ml) the daily maintenance level for
a pre-performance loading period of three days or more.
Contraindications:
There are no known contraindications for the use of LubriSyn oral gel in horses.
Toxicology:
LubriSyn was administered at two, three and five times the recommended maintenance
dosage of 75 mg daily for 90 days with no adverse effects upon hematology or
clinical chemistry parameters observed.
Side Effects:
There have been no local or systemic side effects observed in the field trials.
